Pewter

For owners of mature US businesses

Your records can be licensed as a de-identified copy.

Before delivery, identifying details are removed or replaced with consistent placeholders. Names, contact details, account numbers, credentials and payment details are removed or replaced, while the work remains in the licensed copy. You review a de-identified sample before release.

A scenario, not a valuation. Many firms are offered less, and some receive no offer once their records are reviewed.

Range from our licensing partner's payout model for US firms (October 2026), using headcount and years in business only. What your records hold, who owns them and what a buyer accepts decide the real number.

What changes before delivery

The work remains in the licensed copy. Identifying details are removed or replaced.

Public text trained AI models. Web material cannot teach them how people price a quote, resolve a claim or reschedule a shipment. That expertise is recorded in your inbox, shared drive and operating systems. Labs have begun paying for access: Google made the winning $10 million bid for Spirit Airlines' records, while firms a fraction as large have received hundreds of thousands. Signs your records could fit

  • 20+ peopleFull-time employees, either today or at your busiest.
  • 3+ yearsOf records, files and email retained.
  • US-basedWorking mainly in English.
  • Any statusStill operating, closing down or already closed, provided the records remain.

Demand is strongest for records documenting skilled work from start to finish: construction, logistics, accounting, distribution, engineering, manufacturing, trades and professional services. Records involving third parties, privilege or regulation may be excluded. Meeting these criteria does not promise an offer.

Questions owners bring to call one

Will my clients or employees be exposed?

Names, contact details, account numbers, credentials and payment details are removed or replaced before delivery. Regulated, privileged or third-party records can be excluded. No method removes every risk, so you review the process and a de-identified sample before release.

What would I pay?

Nothing at any point. When a deal closes, our licensing partner pays Pewter a fee. No deal means no fee.

Who handles each part, and who is your client?

Pewter identifies and qualifies an opportunity, assesses your records, presents the offer and coordinates the deal. The licensing partner extends the offer, signs the license with you and pays you. You find out the partner's identity before signing anything. Our fee comes from that partner, so we aren't your agent or lawyer. We aren't a registered broker-dealer or law firm, and we recommend having your own counsel review the agreement.

Will I give up my data?

No. You license an agreed de-identified copy. Your original files remain yours, and your ownership is unchanged.

How are identifying details handled?

Before delivery, credentials, payment details, account numbers, contact details and names are removed or replaced. You may exclude records that are third-party, privileged or regulated. Since no method eliminates all risk, you review the process and a de-identified sample before release. Our approach to records.

Who can view my records before I sign?

Only with your permission. We may request a small sample to assess quality before an offer, which Pewter or the licensing partner may review. You decide what to include and may decline. The full export occurs only after you sign.

Who uses the data, and for what purpose?

Authorized AI developers use it to train and evaluate models, as your agreement defines. Your approved terms specify exclusivity and permitted uses. Our free owner's guide, Before You Sell Your Data, covers the questions and terms to resolve before signing.

How much time will my team need?

Expect to spend a few hours: two or three calls, plus a short list of the systems you use. If an export is required, your IT person or provider runs it while we coordinate. Creating new data or cleaning existing material isn't required.

What if I don't know what data we have?

That's true for most owners. On the call, name the tools you've used through the years, such as email, shared drives or your accounting or operating system, and we'll figure out what's there. Prefer to estimate it on your own first? Our free guide explains where to find the figures in Slack, Google, Microsoft 365 and a dozen other tools.

Why take action now?

Labs are buying today. A single AI data company has already committed $1 billion for the coming twelve months. The value is in the history you still hold: when subscriptions end or a firm closes, archives are deleted and the value disappears.
